2024 Ford Super Duty vs Chevy Silverado HD | Price, Performance, Configurations & Technology

When it’s time to add a new workhorse truck to your fleet, a couple of compelling vehicles are vying for your attention. Two of the top models come from the Ford Super Duty and Chevy Silverado HD lineups. Chevy’s HD line includes two trucks, the 2500HD and the 3500HD. The Ford Super Duty line consists of the F-250, F-350 and F-450. Both brands offer base-level trucks designed to power any job site, with increasingly luxury features and technology that come at higher price tags. We’ll compare each model to see which makes sense for Oklahoma business owners. Let’s start by taking a look at the cost to get into a new heavy-duty truck:

Model: Starting MSRP:
Ford F-250 $44,970
Ford F-350 $46,015
Ford F-450 $59,455
Chevy Silverado 2500 HD $43,400
Chevy Silverado 3500 HD $44,600

The first thing you’ll notice is that each model is competitively priced, except the F-450, all falling within about $2,000 of each other. Both models have higher-level trims and extra features that can inflate your price, depending on your desired features and engines. Let’s take a look at how the models set themselves apart!

Performance, Powertrains, and Towing

Chevrolet has two engine options to consider when making your purchase:

Engine:  Horsepower: Torque: (lb-ft)
6.6L V8 Gas Engine 401 464
Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 470 975

The Gas engine can tow up to 19,090 lbs, while the Diesel engine maxes out at 36,000 when properly equipped. The best Silverado HD can get up to 7,442 lbs of total payload. The Ford Super Duty line has four available engines, each offering something different:

Ford Engine:  Horsepower: Torque: (lb-ft)
6.8L 2V DEVCT NA PFI Gas V8 405 445
7.3L OHV PFI Gas V8 430 485
6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel 475 1,050
6.7L High Output Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel 500 1,200

Each Ford engine packs plenty of power to accomplish any job you need. The Ford Super Duty towing capacity is the best in every category, offering Best-in-Class Gooseneck Towing at 40,000 lbs, Best-in-Class Conventional Towing at 30,000 lbs, and a Best-in-Class Payload rated for 8,000 lbs. Even the lowest-rated engine is rated for over 13,000 lbs of towing capacity, well above what you need to get most jobs done. Configurations & Design

Each Ford and Chevy model is highly customizable, providing several different cabs, bed designs, and door configurations. The Chevy HD series can be had as a regular cab with two doors or a double and crew cab, both with four doors. Chevy offers its HD trucks with either a standard or long bed. A new Ford Super Duty for sale will come with a regular cab, SuperCab, or SuperCrew cab, with either a 6.8-foot or 8-foot bed. Either way, you go, you’ll find competitive space and bed lengths between the brands. Entry-level heavy-duty trucks can come fairly bare-bones or with a plethora of luxury features.

Technology & Features Comparison

The Ford and Chevy lineups have plenty of available driver assistance features. Chevy has available automated emergency braking and forward collision warnings, both features you’ll find standard on a Ford. Both safety suites have available adaptive cruise control and other features that might be worth your time! Chevy HD’s have available infotainment and digital clusters that command the cabin, with an available wireless phone charger, standard Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A Ford work truck will also feature these amenities, but higher trim levels can also include a head-up display, 5G Wi-Fi, premium heated and cooled leather seats, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. While both offer similar features in the basic lineups, the Ford gets more luxurious with more standard features than the Chevy can offer.

Ford Super Duty vs Silverado HD Final Takeaways

At the end of the day, we’re an Oklahoma City Ford dealership, so our recommendation should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, there’s a reason the Ford Super Duty was named America’s Most Dependable Heavy-Duty Truck by J.D. Power and the 2024 North American Truck of the Year. The F-Series is America’s favorite family of trucks, reaching its 47th year as America’s best-selling truck. A Ford Super Duty offers more power, technology, and luxury features than a Chevy HD, all at a similar price. We think the final takeaway is clear, but you should continue to do your own research if you aren’t convinced.
